    Elgg 1.8.19 and 1.7.22 released

Elgg 1.8.19 and 1.7.22 have been released with important security enhancements. All users are encouraged to upgrade immediately to keep their sites and users protected. Users of 1.7 should migrate to 1.8 ASAP as Elgg 1.7 will no longer be updated when Elgg 1.9 is released.

The security fixes in both version improves the security of the "Remeber Me" feature and introduces measures to prevent brute-force attacks of the Remember Me cookie. This upgrade will invalidate all Remember Me cookies for admin users, so admin users may need to log in again.

Welcome Matt Beckett and Juho Jaakkola to the core dev team

I'm pleased to announce Matt Beckett and Juho Jaakkola are joining the team as core developers for Elgg!

Matt's name should already be familiar as a very helpful and effective Community Administrator as well as a prolific plugin and core patch author. We're excited to have him join the core team in an official capacity.

Juho has been involved with Elgg for a few years as a developer whose work can be found on the community site, GitHub, and in the developer discussion group. Read on to hear from Juho about how he plans to help improve Elgg and a bit about his other interests!

The day will be filled with talks about Elgg divided into a general / end user track and a developer track, but there will also be a lot of time to meet new people. Register soon because tickets are limited.

Elgg 1.8.10 released with security enhancements

Elgg 1.8.10 has been released with important security enhancements. Be sure to upgrade immediately to protect your sites.

    Status update

    Greetings all!

We've received some emails about the future of the project and our current development plans, so I wanted to address these concerns.

Elgg is still under active development by the core team, all of whom volunteer their time for Elgg. Our development has slowed because each of us has personal and work lives outside of Elgg. For me, as much as I'd love to devote my full attention to Elgg, I still have other responsibilities.

Our newest team member, Steve Clay, has stepped in during this lull and has been extremely active in developing exciting features for the recent and upcoming 1.8 releases. We've also been very happy to receive a number of pull requests from contributors like Paweł Sroka, Lostmon Lords, Juho Jaakkola, and Team Webgalli. Steve has been instrumental in releasing the last few version of Elgg, and in getting these pull requests in for the upcoming releases.

    Elgg 1.8.4 released

Elgg 1.8.4 has been released with over 70 closed tickets. This release contains important security enhancements, so be sure to upgrade as soon as possible to keep your network safe.

The first security enhancement addresses an issue with web services authorization that would allow unauthorized users access to an authorization token. Thanks to Christian Bode for the report. This is an important issue that all Elgg admins should upgrade immediately to correct.

The second security issue is a minor issue that could expose which plugins are loaded on a site.

In addition to security enhancements, there were a number of bugfixes and other improvements.
